Libyan National Transition Council last Monday choseAbdurrahim el-Keib as the new Prime Minister after the fallof Moamar Kadhafi. Keib has 2 weeks to form aprovisional government. Their task is to design the Constitution andconduct elections. El-Keib replaces the interim prime ministerMahmoud Jibril. This electrical engineer of American graduate left Libya since 1976 because he did not fit with Kadhafi's government. He never participated in the Kadhafi's government,
and hewas in opposition during the war to topple Kadhafi.//It seems he is the right figure to become prime minister. But the close election has raised concerns from the public whether democracy will run well. After all, he is less experienced in the politics. Not only the Libyan people but also Western observers
doubted whether democracy can be enforced in this country which is rich in oil and gas. After seeing the people who tortured Kadhafiand then shoot his head to death, and his body was also treated improperly, they questioned what kind of person that will replace Kadhafi. They worry that the government that will be formed later is not different from the old regime. But the elected prime minister El-Keib guarantee that democracy will be established through elections. After the fall of Gaddafi's there is concerns that competition will occur within the opposition to take over power. The opposition itself consists of several militant factions andarmed. If they end up fighting themselves, the people of Libyawould not be able to exit from the cycle of violence. Theopposition leaders from the three major regions, Tripoli, Benghazi and Misrata have not agreed on the direction of the transitional government NTC. Pretty soon people will elect Libyan leader. It has not been visible who is interested in becoming a leader.
El-Keib will be elected by easy because there are no strong candidates who compete. Or the figures are holding themselves to
appear in the upcoming elections. Anyone who leads Libya later, he will face many tasks. After the street quiet from shooting, what left is onlydamaged buildings and infrastructure. Children who have to returned to schools. The adults who should be rectified spirits afterdecades of living under pressure and fear. Libyans have to elect the right person to lead their country.
