Bengkulu police detain three foreign artefact hunters

Bengkulu, VOI News - Bengkulu police have detained three foreigners who were hunting artefacts in the ancient Fort Marlborough area without the required papers on Friday (March 5).  The three foreigners, identified by their initials as Hg (40), Rd (30) and Tp (28), were nabbed when they were prowling at night in what was once a British fort, the Bengkulu police headquarters` information officer, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Y Suyetmo, said here Saturday.

No more animals at demos: Jakarta Police

Jakarta, VOI News - Jakarta Police said Monday they would no longer tolerate people bringing animals to demonstrations and using them to “make a mockery of state officials”. The police also ban demonstrators from carrying posters with offensive messages aimed at state officials, on the grounds that they could disrupt public order or spark violence between rival groups.

National Narcotics Agency to Socialize Stricker Law

Jakarta, VOI News. Following the increase of narcotics abuse and drugs trafficking in Indonesia, the Indonesian Government and Members of Legislative agreed to revise and make stricter law Instruments.  The Indonesian Government together with the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia has recently launched Law No. 35 Year 2009 on Narcotics.

Soekarno-Hatta Airport Reports Biggest Drug Catch

Jakarta, VOI News - About 9,5 kilograms of methamphetamine had been seized by customs officials at Soekarno Hatta Airport and one Iranian arrested in the biggest drug bust at the airport to date, authorities said on Friday (19/2). The drug came in on February 12th through Etihad Airways' EY 472 flight cargo from Teheran, packed in about eight packages of marble home decorations. But the bust was not made until an Iranian picked up the packages at the airport on on February 18th.

Police: Foreigner suspected in tax fraud case

Jakarta, VOI News - National Police chief detective Comr. Gen. Ito Sumardi said a police team assisting the tax office civil investigators in the tax fraud case since last week, found strong indication of a foreigner’s involvement in the tax fraud case. He said the foreigner worked as a tax consultant for one of the 10 companies listed by the tax office as tax evaders. “We are now coordinating with the related embassy and the Foreign Ministry to seek ways to handle this case. Expert resources usually receive maximum protection from their countries,” he said.

The Immmigration Office to Re-evaluate Tourist Visa Changes

Jakarta, VOI News - The Indonesian immigration office would re-evaluate the government’s decision in January to scrap the one-week tourist visa, following an outcry by foreign tour agents who market packages for Batam and Bintan islands. On January 25, the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights announced that the $10 visa on arrival for foreigners staying in Indonesia for a week or less would no longer be issued, and immigration officials would only issue a 30-day visa for $25. But the issue has sparked such controversy in Singapore that on Sunday the Straits Times reported it was causing panic among travel agents there,
