UAE cloning pioneer to present future of camel cloning at vet Middle East

Dubai, VOI News - Scientists who took part in the creation of the world’s first cloned camel will be among those taking part in the Middle East’s premier veterinary event later this month.

Israeli leader urges calm over row with Washington

Jerusalem, VOI News - Israel's prime minister is urging calm following anothr stern rebuke from Washington over plans to build 1,600 apartments in contested east Jerusalem. Benjamin Netanyahu told his Cabinet on Sunday "not to get carried away and to calm down" over the crisis with the U.S. News of the construction plan emerged during Vice President Joe Biden's visit to Isral last week.

China PM defends assertive trade, foreign policy

Indian Wells, VOI News - China vowed Sunday to remain alert to any renewed signs of economic crisis and forcefully defended its currency, trade and more assertive foreign policies as helping global rebalancing, not undermining it. Premier Wen Jiabao repeatedly took issue with United States, whose relations with Beijing have soured in recent months.

Saudi to set up index fund for foreigners

Cairo, VOI News - The head of Saudi Arabia's market regulatory agency says the country will launch a stock market index fund by the end of March into which foreigners can invest. Capital Market Authority head Abdulrahman al-Tuwaijri, in comments published in Sunday's edition of al-Eqtisadiyah newspaper, that despite the move, Saudi Arabia is still reluctant to allow direct foreign investments in the exchange.

Venezuela obtains K-8 military planes from China

Caracas, VOI News - Venezuela has received its first shipment of six Chinese-made K-8 military planes, and President Hugo Chavez says his government aims to buy 40 in all. Chavez announced plans last year to buy the trainer and light attack jets. Chavez reiterated Saturday that he turned to China and Russia for weapons because the United States has bared arms sales to Venezuela.  Several planes flew overhead during the ceremony at an air base in the city of Barquisimeto.

Report: Google near certain to close China site

VOI News - A newspaper Web site is reporting Google Inc. is "99.9 percent" sure to close its search engine in China after negotiations over censorship stalled. The Financial Times cited an unnamed source familiar with the company's thinking when it reported Saturday that Google has drawn upplans to shutter Google.cn. The newspaper did not say when the company would shut the site. A Google spokesman declined to comment on the report. It comes a day after China's top Internet regulator reiterated that Google must obey its laws or "pay the consequences."
