Welcome to Book and Film Review, a regular segment presenting new Indonesian books or films.

For this edition, we feature a novel entitled I LOVE YOU I JUST CAN’T TELL YOU, written by Alvi Syahrin. Alvi Syahrin was born in  Ambon, 20 January, 1992. Now, he lives in Surabaya and studies at a private university in East Java, majoring in Informatics Engineering faculty, which is completely unrelated to the writing world. Earlier, he loved to play robot toys with stories he has written he was a child. As he is getting older, he left the toys, but the stories are never getting old. Because of that he decided to write, to imagine so that he has never lost his childhood. Alvi began to write fantastic short stories. But, finally, he returned to teenager’s stories which become his favorite. He always wants to write what he read and hopes he is able to give benefit to other people.

Teenage love is always Alvi’s concern to write and record the stories. In 2015, Alvi releases a book about teenage love. This man is easily inspired from all love stories. Alvi also tells the love story from all corners. A book entitled “I Love You I Just Can’t Tell You” is a love story’s knowledge which is valuable for teenagers. This book tells about a girl named Daisy Yazawa, who is enjoying her sixteen years in the tenth grade. Like most of her friends, having boyfriend and falling in love is interesting for him. Unfortunately, some things block her to have a boyfriend. Even, to only fall in love. Daisy so worries that nobody cannot receive her condition. She realizes that she is not like other girls in her school. She feels that she does not have proportional body. And she even hasn’t got her first menstruation// Until one day, inadvertently her friends realized that Daisy is 'different'// Since that time, their view begin to change. But since that time, Daisy also changes. A thing appears in her heart. Daisy finally meets with first love. Alan Atmadjaya, her senior often comes to school and becomes her firends’ idol. He is tall. He is wearing glasses, and has firm boned cheeks, rarely smiles and handsome. She believes that Alan falls in love with her. // Daisy starts to look for information about Alan// She does many things. She hopes to be able to steal Alan’s attention. And hopefully Alan calls her. Daisy even desparates to sneak into Alan’s campus . She is undercover as a student at Alan’s class. It is successful, but it ends with misunderstanding. And even causes annoyance on Daisy. So, is Daisy’s first love successful? And will Daisy release Alan when she knows that there is a man who will receive her? On the other hand, Alan is falling in love with Ve, his bestfriend. Even though Ve has rejected him. But Alan survives. It is difficult for Alan to release her, to forget and to loo for another girl.

It is Alvi’s expertise to write a love story. Even though the author feels there are still some obstacles in writing this story, this book is able to give a new lesson about love . Alvi’s language style is easy to understand . Alvi is not using too many words associated with love . The message conveyed by Alvi can be understood well by the writer . True love does not rely on perfect physical condition but being beautiful is a manifestation of true love .Alvi beautifully describes the picture of this love . Illustrations used in the book can also help authors to imagine the situations and feelings experienced by the main characters . Every love story is presented with different angles by Alvi so that any writers cannot compare one with the other books . It has also become an important asset for Alvi if he continues to maintain his quality .Images are so beautiful about this love can be applied with either through the writings Alvi .
