Pajam Village


Wakatobi in Southeast Sulawesi is one of 10 priority tourism destinations in Indonesia . Its excellence lies on the beautiful of underwater nature . Wakatobi has 3,000 species of fish and 600 species of world coral . This is equivalent to 75 percent of the world's coral reefs . Enjoying the beauty of the Wakatobi underwater, can be done in various ways, such as by snorkeling, swimming or diving . Diving becomes a major tourism activities in Wakatobi, because it has calm wave and clear visibility to see underwater views . not only underwater tourism sites, the visitors can also enjoy cultural and historical attractions in Wakatobi by visiting a village called Pajam . The Pajam Village is the oldest village in Wakatobi . Pajam is a combination of two villages, Palea and Jamaraka . The village is located on Kaledupa island . You can cross from Wangi-Wangi island to Kaledupa island for 4 hours . To go to Wangi-Wangi Island, you can choose the flight from Jakarta to Kendari . From Kendari, the capital of Southeast Sulawesi province, the trip will continue by using a wooden ferry boat from Kendari Port to Wangi-Wangi island . Visiting the Pajam village, you are required to wear decent clothes to honor the local community. people in Pajam Village still continue woven culture from their ancestors . Local residents hold weaving as their sources of income besides farming . The visitors can learn to weave in the region . The weaving process is already known quite difficult which consists of three stages, namely Purunga, Oluri and weaving . Purunga is thread rolling process . Then Oluri is rolling threads on the board . The last is weaving process . To produce one glove only, the craftsman takes 7 to 10 days . That is why the price of woven fabric is quite expensive than  ordinary cloth . The price of the cheapest fabric woven in the village is 500 thousand rupiah while the most excellent weaving is 800 thousand Rupiah . as the oldest village of the Kaledupa Kingdom era, Pajam also has a historical tourism site with full of mystical values, namely Kamali Fort . This historical object is located near the Pajam gate . There are only two buildings namely a castle on the left side and the hall on the middle side . On the right side there are only dead trees and piles of stones as a barrier to the residence of local people . To visit the castle, there are some restrictions that should be obeyed . You should not stop in front of the castle . When riding  Kamali Fort, you should wash the feet in accordance with a mandate of the caretaker . You should not go outside during Tuesday night and Tuesday morning .
