WWF to hold the 10th Earth Hour

The 10th Earth Hour will be held around the world, including in Indonesia. The global movement to switch off lights in houses and buildings for one hour is themed Shine A Light on Climate Action – from Moment to Movement, where the public are invited to be more actively protecting the nature. Besides the theme, Dewi Satriani – Campaign and Mobilization Manager of WWF Indonesia said that Earth Hour in Indonesia will also hold the Sejuta Aksi or One Million Action campaign where Earth Hour Indonesia community will donate one million t-shirts that will be turned into shopping bags in order to reduce use of plastic bag.

“…This year, the communities will do an action named Sejuta Aksi, where we will collect one million t-shirts that will be turned into shopping bags. Those bags will be distributed to traditional markets and supermarkets to replace plastic bags. So, these reusable bags will reduce the use of plastic bags because Indonesia wants to be free of garbage in 2020,” she said.

Furthermore, Dewi Satriani stated, the Earth Hour generally invites the public and the government to move beyond the moment of switching off lights into real actions for the environment through eco-friendly lifestyle. Besides, Dewi added, the number of cities in Indonesia that will participate in the 10th Earth Hour increases into 70 cities, from 50 cities in the previous year. (Steve)
