US Vice President, Mike Pence arrived in Jakarta Wednesday night

Vice President of the United States, Michael Pence arrived in Halim Perdana Kusuma airport, East Jakarta on Wednesday at 11.30 pm local time. The US Vice President along with his wife Karen Pence and their two daughters aboard the US presidential aircraft the United States Of America number 80002, upon arrival from Tokyo were greeted by the Indonesian Foreign Minister, Retno Marsudi and Energy and Mineral Resources, Minister Ignasius Jonan at the airport. In Indonesia up to April 21, VP Mike Pence is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on President Joko Widodo at the Merdeka Palace and later hold bilateral talks with Vice President Jusuf Kalla at the Vice Presidential Palace on Thursday. He will also visit Istiqlal Grand Mosque and hold a dialog with leaders of different religions. From Istiqlal Mosque, he will hold a meeting with the ASEAN secretary general as part of a series of activities marking the 40th anniversary of the US-Asian relations. (Antara)


Representatives of 29 countries monitor Jakarta gubernatorial election

A total of 51 delegates from 29 countries monitored the Jakarta gubernatorial election, which was held on Wednesday and won by the Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno pair. The representatives of the foreign countries were from Sri Lanka, Australia, United States, Canada, Denmark, France, Brazil, Mozambique, Germany, the UK and Singapore among others. In the meantime, Ambassador of Sri Lanka, Damas Parera stated that the Jakarta gubernatorial election was a reflection of the democratic tradition in Indonesia. He also praised the professional implementation of the election. Ambassador Parera, along with personnel of the Jakarta General Election Commission (KPU DKI Jakarta), monitored a number of polling stations. He believed that the election was well implemented. The Ambassador views that besides having a good ability to hold the elections, Jakartans had addressed democracy and elections with full enthusiasm and respect. (Antara)
