Indonesian Defense Ministry to Increase Synergy with Media

Public Communication Center of Indonesian Defense Ministry held a gathering with journalists at the Ministry’s office in Jakarta on Thursday (20/4). Head of Public Communication Center of Indonesian Defense Ministry, Colonel Totok Sugiharto on his welcoming speech to Media said the meeting was to increase synergy with media in order to provide important contribution and to produce balanced information on the defense policy of Indonesia.

“I hope Indonesian Defense Ministry and Media can come together on how information about defense can be read by all Indonesian people to avoid imbalanced information. If bad, report it bad, we will fix it. But if it is good, just report that it is good,” said Colonel Totok Sugiharto.

Colonel Totok Sugiharto expressed hope that the Indonesian Defense Ministry could maintain harmony with Media for the sake of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. (AF/edit r)

Pence holds inter-faith dialogue with religious figures at Istiqlal Mosque

Vice President of the United States Mike Pence held an inter-faith dialogue with several religious figures during his visit to Indonesia’s biggest mosque Istiqlal in Jakarta on Thursday (20/4). Vice President Pence met several religious figures of Indonesia such as Yenny Wahid, who is the daughter of the late Abdurrahman Wahid, former leader of Islamic organization Nahdlatul Ulama, and Din Syamsuddin, former chairman of Muhammadiyah in a dialogue session closed for journalist at the mosque. Indonesia is often lauded as a model of Muslim democracy as around 90 per cent of its 250 million people are Muslim, but it has a secular government, who live harmony with Christian, Hindu and Buddhist minorities. However, Indonesia is not listed into the list of Muslim-majority countries whose citizens face a temporary US travel ban. The US has a particular interest in Indonesia as the Southeast Asian country has suffered from attack of international terrorist network. Indonesia and the US have been partnering, since the Bali bombing incident in 2002, in countering terrorism. (antara)
