Government to streamline registration of trademarks

Indonesian Law and Human Rights Ministry expects to streamline procedures to register trademarks in the hope of slashing the time needed for businesses to gain official recognition of their brands. The ministry’s trademark and geographical indication director, Fathlurachman, recently said in Jakarta that is an improvement is part of the implementation of Law and Human Rights Ministry Regulation No. 67/2016 on Brand Registration. The regulation is based on Law No. 20/2016 on trademarks, passed by lawmakers in November last year. Fathlurachman said, the ministerial regulation would provide guidelines to, for example, deal with trademark disputes. Under current trademark registration procedures, applicants need to wait between 12 and 18 months to secure official recognition of their brands. The necessary procedures include document validation and a three-month time window during the public is invited to challenge the originality of the brand being registered//Voi.JP


New Coal-based Power Plant to be built in Central Java

indonesia Power, a subsidiary of state-owned electricity company PLN, is set to build a coal-based power plant (PLTGU) in Semarang, Central Java. It is expected that the power plant will begin operating in 2020. Indonesia Power President Director Sripeni Inten Cahyani in Jakarta, on Saturday, July 15 said that the power plant is one of the implementations of the government’s 35,000 MW electricity project. She added that the project is worth Rp4.8 trillion. Sripeni added that the power plant would be built on land that already has a power plant so there will be no issue when it comes to a land clearing.//VOI.Tempo
