Indonesia to increase cooperation with Singapore

Indonesia keeps increasing cooperation with Singapore in various sectors. That was conveyed by Indonesian Industry Minister Airlangga Hartato in his speech in the celebration of the  52nd National Day of Singapore in Jakarta on Thursday (10/8). In his speech, the Minister said, Singapore and Indonesia have been cooperating for 50 years to maintain regional security and stability. Minister Airlangga expressed hope that the two countries could maintain and increase cooperation in bilateral, regional, and multilateral framework.

“As both countries continue to work closely in bilateral, regional, and multi-lateral framework, we achieve much together within fifty years of our diplomatic relations. I have strong confidence that we will be able to collectively address new and emerging challenges, to utilize new potential for our mutual benefit. I wish to conclude by reiterating Indonesia’s commitment to further strengthen our bonds of friendship in the area of cooperation for both mutual benefits towards realizing full potential economy. I also look forward to working with you (Singapore) to further advance our bilateral agenda and pursue our shared interest at regional and multilateral form”, Airlangga said. 

Minister Airlangga also said, Indonesia and Singapore keep increasing cooperation in various sectors such as trade, economy, and cyber security. Previously, the Minister said, various activities were held to celebrate the 50-year bilateral cooperation of Indonesia and Singapore. One of the upcoming event will be the visit of President Joko Widodo to Singapore to attend country leaders meeting. (steve/edit r)

Indonesia, Eurasia to Sign Trade Deal

The Indonesian government will sign a memorandum of understanding on a free trade agreement with the Eurasian countries. Indonesian Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita said on Thursday, August 10th in Jakarta that the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) will be executed at the end of 2017. He said that the prospect of increased trade with Eurasian countries. The Eurasian Economic Union is an economic cooperation signed by Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus in 2014.Other members of the union are Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Enggartiasto explained that the CEPA will be initiated with Russia, the leader of the region. Moreover, Indonesia and Russia has a long, close relationship, he added. The opportunity will be exploited to catch up with Vietnam and Malaysia that have earlier signed trade deals with Eurasian countries, he said. He also expected Indonesia-Eurasia CEPA can be finalized within a year. Indonesia and Russia trade volume stood at US$1.12 billion between January and May or 54.43 percent higher compared to
the same period last year. Indonesia posted a trade surplus of US$77.45 million. (Tempo)
