Head of National Development Planning Agency –Bappenas, Bambang S. Brodjonegoro has stated recently that Indonesia would be able to become a developed country by the year 2045 or 100 years post-independence if the economic growth is consistent within 5 percent. During the opening of the ‘Indonesia Infrastructure Week’ event in Jakarta on Wednesday (8/11), he affirmed that Indonesia will become a high-income country by the year 2038 or 2039, if Indonesia can be consistent with a 5 percent average growth scenario. A consistent economic growth of 5 percent can translate into a $20,000 dollars of state revenue per capita. Indonesia’s current revenue is around $3,600 to $3,700 dollars. Bambang also questioned that the challenge is that whether Indonesia is able to maintain 5 percent growth annually. He also underlined the importance of infrastructure development as an asset to improve Indonesia’s economy. Indonesia’s infrastructure towards the country’s GDP in 2012 only reached 38 percent. Indonesia is still running behind compared to India (58 percent), China (76 percent), Poland (80 percent), and South Africa (87 percent). (Tempo)

Pornographic GIF Removed, WhatsApp Not Blocked

Indonesian Communications and Informatics Ministry (Kemkominfo) stated that it has communicated with WhatsApp in handling pornographic GIF contents in the communication service app. Director General of Application and Information at the Ministry, Semuel Abrijani Pangarepan said in Jakarta on Wednesday (November 8th) that his Ministry has done intense communication in the last two days. The response from Tenor and Giphy was also helpful; the Ministry was banded together by WhatsApp. The ministry has unblocked it. He also said that WhatsApp had met the government’s two-day deadline in fixing the pornographic GIF controversy. Currently, pornographic contents from the website Tenor could no longer be accessed through WhatsApp. Meanwhile, the website itself could not be accessed yet since it is still being monitored by the Ministry regarding the site's stability.
