VOI NEWS 10.00 LOCAL TIME, GMT+7, 10.11.2017

The Indonesian Heroes Day on November 10, should not only be commemorated. All Indonesians should understand the essence of the commemoration. It was said by the chief of event organizer of the national commemoration of the Heroes Day 2017, Agus Tanzil Sjahroezah in a special interview with Voice of Indonesia recently.

“We should not only commemorate the day, but also understand the essence that everybody was ready to sacrifice their pleasure and their lives for the independence of this country. The educated independence heroes were then respected by the colonialists. Still they did not stay silent. They did not only enjoy the privilege they deserved. They fought for independence” He said.

Sjahroezah added, all Indonesians especially the youth should fill the independence the heroes fought before with the useful things. The independence of the country is like debt that all Indonesians should pay to the independence heroes. (rezha/trans r)

Jakarta to have Betawi batik production center

Jakarta will establish a batik production center in Srengseng subdistrict in West Jakarta, where Betawi cultural heritage will become the feature of production. West Jakarta Tourism and Culture Agency head Linda Enriany said on Thursday that surrounded by an urban forest and strong cultural heritage of batik, Srengseng has huge potential to attract tourists. Linda added that presently, Betawi batik is made in areas outside Jakarta, such as in Bekasi in West Java and Central Java. In Srengseng, it's going to be the real Betawi batik, made by local artists. The batik designs will feature symbols of Srengseng, such as the orchid and betta fish, as well as general Betawi cultural symbols like ondel-ondel (giant effigies). Linda revealed that she has proposed to the Jakarta administration to make Srengseng one of the city's leading destinations. The potential is there, she just need to improve the facilities.
