Indonesian Defense Ministry to hold JIDD 2013

ASEAN’s and region’s Leaders, Policy makers and Stakeholders will meet at Jakarta International Defense Dialogue ( JIDD ) in March. The forum is to discuss the defense and security issues and developing trends in the region. Indonesian Defense Minister , Purnomo Yusgiantoro on  Press Conference  in Jakarta on Friday said  the high level meeting will also be joined  by a series of agenda like counter terrorism  exercises followed by 18 countries.

"We will hold  next month a big agenda, Jakarta International Defense Dialogue. Then,  the counter terrorism  exercises beyond the policy capacity with participants from 18 countries in Sentul, in September. It will be coordinated by ASEAN Defense Ministers Meeting Plus, 10 ASEAN countries and 8 non ASEAN countries. We cooperate with International Peace Institute of New York, chaired by the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon and other several prominent figures. The topic of JIDD is Defense Diplomacy to solve world’s problem by diplomacy", he said.

Purnomo Yusgiantoro explained JIDD could be a promotion and inter governmental cooperation and inter military and to facilitate multilateral cooperation. It is also expected to build agreement and mutual understanding and benefit among the participants. Army Helicopter Attacked on its Way to Evacuate Dead Soldiers in Papua

A military helicopter that was on its way to evacuate the remains of the eight soldiers who were shot dead in Papua's Puncak Jaya district, was forced to return back to its base after an armed group attacked them in the air on Friday morning. The suspected separatists attacked the helicopter just 10 minutes after the aircraft left its base in Mulia to travel to Sinak to pick up the bodies. Antaranews.com said that three soldiers, identified as First Lieutenant Amang, Major Asep and Captain Tata, were injured in the attack and were taken to a hospital in Mulia// Meanwhile, the National Police on Friday said they had made no plans to send reinforcements to Papua. Eight soldiers were shot dead and two more were wounded on Thursday in two separate incidents among the mountains of the Puncak Jaya district, a known hideout for rebels where attacks on police and soldiers are common. Government minister Djoko Suyanto late on Thursday said the assailants were members of both the Goliat Tabuni and Murib groups, which he accused of targeting police and military officers in the past/// The Jakarta Globe


President to submit names of BI gubernatorial candidates  

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will submit names of candidates for Bank Indonesia (BI) governorship to the House of Representatives (DPR). As quoted by antara news agency,  the president`s special aide for economic and development affairs, Firmansyah, on Thursday said the names will be submitted soon after the President  complete his  working visit in Central Java. However, Firmansyah declined to disclose the names of the candidates. Bank Indonesia Governor Darmin Nasution will end his term of office on May 22, 2013. Under the law, the President must submit the names of candidates for Bank Indonesia governorship three months earlier. This means that the names of the candidates must reach the DPR on February 22 at the latest/// Antara


President calls for economic empowerment of people living near forests

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has urged related stake holders to economically empower the people living near forests and on mountain slopes. During his working visit in Central java, the head of state said forest which is not well managed, could cause disaster and affect the climate. When holding a dialog with villagers in Bukit Batumirah, Mt Slamet slope area, Tegal District, on Thursday Yudhoyono emphasized the need to improve the economic condition of local communities so they would not conduct slash-and-burn farming nor rely their livelihood on selling forest products. He said he had given instructions on the forest preservation in one hand and the economic empowerment of people living near forests in the other hand, for instance in the agricultural or animal husbandry fields. The dialog with the president was attended by around 800 villagers including farmers and animal breeders living in Mt Slamet area/// Antara 

Yogyakarta Governor : Cooperation among local administrations needed 

Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X said cooperation among local administrations is badly needed in the era of autonomy because the local development could not only depend on the central government. During a signing of a memorandum of understanding between Yogyakarta administration, The Gadjah Mada Universtiy (UGM), and Alumni of Gadjah Mada University (Kagama) and the Southeast Sulawesi Administration, in Yogyakarta, on Thursday, the Sultan said autonomy is a common challenges for each administrations, tolerance should be in forefront.  In this case Sultan added it needed  to establish a  "joint Committee" among local administrations which involving   representatives from local communities.  The cooperation  between Yogyakarta administration, UGM  and  Kagama with Sultra administration are in the fields of regional development, education, research, and community services///Translate


Jupiter Aerobatic Team of the Indonesian  Air Force to perform in Malaysia

 The  "Jupiter Aerobatic Team" of the Indonesian air force will appear in the "Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2013 ",in  Malaysia on March 26 to 30 2013. The event is an aerospace exhibition and products display of air defense equipment. Coordinator of "Jupiter Aerobatic Team" (JAT) Lieutenant Colonel  Dedy "Leopard" Susanto in Yogyakarta, on Thursday said that Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2013 held in the northern region of Malaysia that is a yearly agenda. Govt urged to simplify land holding certification

Real Estate Indonesia REI called on the government to simplify land holding certificates that are required by property developers. The Association`s Vice Chairman for Agrarian Affairs FX Teguh Kinarto in the Ministry of Industry in Jakarta on Thursday said land holding certificate process would take a maximum of two to three months, but in reality, the process takes up to two years. According to Teguh the long certification process would also increase the production cost because the interest rate of housing loan also continued to increase. REI also said that in the near future it will establish a task force in accelerating the certification service. US, Gorontalo seek cooperation in agriculture, tourism

The Gorontalo provincial administration and the United States Consulate General in Surabaya are exploring investment opportunities in the tourism and agriculture sectors, especially in corn cultivation. On Thursday,  Gorontalo Maize Information Center head Muljady Mario said the visit of head of the US Consulate General’s political and economic affairs section, Heahter Coble was aimed at seeking information and opportunities on the possibility of working together.  Muljady Mario said one of the potential areas the US was interest in, is the cooperation in the tourism and agriculture sectors, especially corn. Muljady said the potential of corn farming in Gorontalo was quite promising, given the vast arid land, but was only hampered by the traditional dry-land farming system, which mostly relies on natural rainfall. He said Gorontalo needed quite a large amount of investment, including from the US, to build an irrigation system on arid land. He added so far, only three foreign companies had invested in corn farming, in addition to nine local companies, but most of them sought to exporting the commodity. Muljady added that Gorontalo was ranked ninth in Indonesia in terms of corn production at 4.56 tons per hectare/// The Jakarta Post
