Jhonny Iskandar, a dangdut singer who was popular in 1980 – 1990s has songs which are familiar to dangdut lovers. Some of them are Bukan Pengemis Cinta, Judul-judulan, Bibir Kuda and many other hits. Surprisingly, Jhonny spent most of his young age in pesantren or Islamic boarding school. The man born in 1960 studied at Pesantren Zainul Hasan (Zaha) Genggong, Pajarakan district, Probolinggo regency in 1973-1977.

Jhonny did not want to waste his knowledge in the pesantren. He made an album for Pesantren Zaha Genggong. Most of the songs were composed by KH. Hasan Saifourridzall. There was prayer specially read by Kiai Hasan Saifourridzall in the end of the album released in 1980. After finishing study at pesantren, Jhonny was engaged in dangdut music world and often showed up on TV. Then Jhonny mostly performs off air, compose songs and handle business like mushroom business, goat cattle and fresh water breeding.
