his song is not only famous in Indonesia, but also in foreign countries . In addition it has been sung by many singers, the song was also translated into dozens of foreign languages, such as English, Russian, Chinese and Japanese . In fact, Bengawan Solo is used as the title of a big screen in Japan . Gesang whose full name Gesang  Martohartono was born in Surakarta, Central Java,  on October 1st 1917 . Gesang composed the song Bengawan Solo in 1940, when he was at 23 years old . The young Gesang then was sitting on the edge of the Bengawan Solo . His admiration toward  the river gives him an inspiration to compose the song, which took about 6 months . The song also took him to reach the title as Maestro Kroncong of Indonesia .Born in Indonesia, and the desire to bequeath something meaningful to the State before the death come ahead . This spirit needs to be owned by each nation .

Listener, the Kroncong Maestro of Indonesia, now is gone . Gesang died in Surakarta, Central Java, on May 20th, 2010 at the age of 92 years old . But his works to present keroncong music in the country still be remembered .  The government of Surakarta, a city where Gesang was born, put the name of Gesang Martohartono as the name of the street as tribute to the keroncong maestro.
